Born in the Netherlands and living in eastern Pennsylvania until the early 1990’s, Hendrika draws her inspiration from both the east and west. Moving to a quieter and simpler life style in western Colorado, she is inspired by the expansive beauty of the mountains and culture of the Southwest.

“I began as a colored pencil artist in 2001 and soon moved on to pen and ink, pastels and oils. I enjoy working with all of these media as each one gives me a different way to express myself and each medium helps me to produce a different style.
My “canvasses” are two and three dimensional. My three dimensional work includes thick walled gourds, some grown in my own garden, that I dry and transform into functional and decorative bowls, and leather pillows and lampshades that I embellish with pen and ink, natural fibers and beadwork, producing one of a kind works of art.” |
